Venmo payment not showing up in bank account – A helpful guide

October 31, 2021

Sometimes using Venmo, you will find that your payments are not showing up in your bank account. Do not worry. Here are the reasons for Venmo payment not showing up in your bank account and detailed processing instructions for you.

Reason 1: You have not made a money transfer to your bank account on Venmo App

Venmo payments won’t automatically show up on your bank account if you don’t make a money order. All funds or account balance will be stored on the Venmo wallet until you transfer it to your bank account. So check this out again. If you do not know how to transfer money from Venmo wallet to bank account, here are detailed instructions:

  • Tap the icon ☰ in the top right and select “Transfer” or “Transfer Balance”
  • Or you can click on Manage balance” and then “Go to bank”
  • Enter the amount you want to transfer to your bank
  • Here you have 2 methods of money transfer: Instant (charges) or 1-3 Biz Days (free), choose the method you want and then click on the bank account or credit card you want to transfer money to

If you follow the above steps correctly and your bank information is correct then your bank account will receive the money. If you still have errors, please check the following reasons.

Reason 2: You chose Standard money transfer rather than Instant money transfer

When using the Standard money transfer method, it takes 1-3 business days or sometimes longer for the money to be in the account. Also, when you transfer money from the Venmo wallet to your bank account on weekdays (Monday to Friday) and after 7pm ET, this transaction may take 1 more day to complete. Because that transaction will not be processed until the next business day. When using Instant Funds Transfer, it sometimes takes about 30 minutes to complete. In this case, you need to be patient and double check your trade. In part 1, I also detailed how to choose either Instant or Standard money transfer. There is a caveat that, if you use the Instant money transfer method, there is a 1.5% fee (from $0.25 and up to $15).

Sometimes your Venmo Instant transfer is not available. This is because you used a card or bank account for successful instant transfers in the past. Because Venmo once reported that its database could not override instant transfer rejections. In this case, try changing to the Standard method of money transfer.

Reason 3: Your bank account is not valid

Before making a money transfer from Venmo to a bank account, you should add your bank account (or credit card) to Venmo first to check if it is valid. If your account is marked “invalid” on Venmo, you can make Venmo payments not showing up in your bank account.

Instructions to connect a bank account (or credit card) to Venmo e-wallet:

  • Tap the “☰” icon at the top of the app screen. With the new Venmo, select the icon
  • Tap “Settings” then tap “Payment method”
  • Tap “Add bank or card…” then select “Bank”
  • Choose your preferred verification method

Reasons why your account information is not valid on Venmo e-wallet:

  • Micro-transfers used for manual bank verification failed due to incorrect routing or bank account numbers.
  • The bank sent Venmo a message that it could not find the account with the information you provided.
  • When you try to add a savings account to Venmo, you will be told that the account you entered is not valid for electronic/ACH transactions.
  • The account’s transaction limit has been exceeded or the funds are on hold.

All of the above invalid reasons will be reported to your email. In this case, you need to actively contact the bank to handle the above reasons. Most importantly, double check your bank account before hitting the green button.

Reason 4: Your transaction has been flagged by Venmo

Venmo’s self-secure system will attempt to flag and hold your transaction if it thinks this is unusual activity. This is how Venmo protects users from phishing. This will happen if you pay too many times, make wrong transfers, change your password, etc. If your transaction doesn’t show up in your bank account, it will automatically be added to your Venmo wallet balance within 1-3 days. Or you can also contact the Venmo Help Center for processing. Ways For you to contact the Venmo Help Center:

  • Option 1: call (855) 812-4430 (M – F, 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. ET)
  • Option 2: go to Venmo’s website, select the support contact section (at the bottom of the website) and fill out the form
  • Option3: chat with Venmo Staff in mobile app (M–F, 7:00am–1:00am ET; Sat–Sun, 9:00am–11:00pm ET)

Reason 5: Venmo’s server is having problems

Every day millions of transactions are processed on Venmo. So it’s easy to understand if it crashes and suspends the user’s request for a few hours. At this point, if you call the support hotline, you will receive an explanation. Venmo will also upgrade their servers from time to time and they will notify you by email.

Reason 6: Your bank is having problems

The server at the bank is down causing the Venmo payment not to show up in the bank account can also happen. Don’t worry, your payment is only paused for a while and then will return to where it was. Then you just need to be patient.

Reason 7: Your Venmo account is not verified

This is a common reason why transfers from Venmo to your bank account are interrupted. If you don’t verify your identity, you’ll only be spending $300 per week instead of $5000 – a pretty big disparity. Since you don’t verify your identity, you can’t go over the spending threshold and get a transaction limit. Hence Venmo payment not showing up in your bank account. To verify your identity on Venmo is not difficult, just follow these steps:

  • Open Menu, select Settings, select Identity Verification
  • Then you just need to follow the process
  • After a few minutes you can successfully verify your identity
