Spotlight Interview: CEO of FreeUp.com, Nathan Hirsch! @freeeup

1. Thank you for taking the time to do this interview with me! Please tell us a bit

about yourself and what you do currently…

My name is Nathan Hirsch. I’m 28 years old and I live in Orlando, Florida. I’ve been an entrepreneur for the better part of my life. I started my first business while still in college at Quinnipiac University selling textbooks on Amazon. Over the course of 5 years, I built it to sell over $25 million on the marketplace.

Today, I am the CEO of FreeeUp.com, a marketplace that connects pre-vetted freelancers with business owners. I work closely with our 5,000+ clients and 1,000+ freelancers to build the marketplace into a top hiring destination online.

2. What inspired you to start doing your own business venture?

I was inspired to start FreeeUp after hiring freelancers online for over 2 years and running into major frustrations. My business partner and I were using other hiring platforms and we found ourselves (1) spending too much time interviewing and vetting and (2) having turnover with people we hired.

We were frustrated by the current process of hiring online and we wanted a better way. We wanted to create a marketplace where all freelancers were pre-vetted and the business owner could meet top quality freelancers fast. That’s what led to the start of FreeeUp.com.

3. What has been your biggest achievement so far?

Helping thousands of people grow their businesses through FreeeUp. It’s the best feeling in the world to hear a story from a freelancer that was able to quit their 9 to 5 and start a freelancing business. Likewise, it’s amazing to see the progression of companies that use FreeeUp for hiring top talent. Those stories inspire me.

4. What fuels you to keeps you going each day?

I’m a born hustler. I love building businesses and FreeeUp makes it even easier to stay motivated because it leads to a positive impact on the people using the marketplace. Knowing that I get to make that impact keeps me hustling away at all hours of the day.

5. Who are the top 3 experts you’d love to work with? And why?

Derek Jeter. He has always been an idol of mine.

Russell Brunson. He understands how to scale a business and build an extremely loyal following of customers.

Jeff Bezos. Who wouldn’t want to work with Jeff Bezos? Lol. I admire the company that he has built with Amazon and his focus on strategy the entire time.

6. Take a moment to close your eyes. Where do you see yourself in 5 year’s time?

In 5 years, FreeeUp will be one of the leading marketplaces for hiring freelancers online and I’ll be there continuing to push the company forward. I’m a simple person. I don’t long for material possessions. I love building businesses, making new connections, and experiencing new things.

7. If you could get the perfect help from an online tax return service, what would

they do for you?

Everything. lol. The ideal online tax return service would make the process as simple as possible so that I don’t have to spend much time or thought on it.

8. Can you give our readers 2 key tips for success in business?

I’d love to. Tip #1: stay focused on where you add the most value to your business. Hire talented people in specialized roles for the rest. You can’t waste your time on areas of the business that you don’t specialize in or that you don’t enjoy.

Tip #2: Always know the greatest risks to your business. As an owner, you need to know what could take you down. If you know the risks, you can create strategies to keep minimizing them so that you can find long-term success.

9. If you were stuck on a desert island and could only bring 3 things what would

they be?

My laptop, a portable solar charger, and a wifi stick 🙂

10. How do you describe yourself in 5 words?

Ambitious. Personable. Direct. Strategic. Logical.
