HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) revealed in their press release dated February 3, 2014, that a record-breaking 10.74 million tax returns were “received by the 31 January filing deadline”, which represents an 11% increase on last year. BUT is it a hollow victory and do the figures have any real meaning?
