2014 Nissan Patrol review – Dubai UAE Car Review by Motopedia.ae
Nissan graciously presented us with a Nissan Patrol Platinum edition to drive until the new year!
The Nissan Patrol has been a UAE favorite for as long as we can remember. It was either this, or the Toyota Landcruiser. Recently, Nissan decided to choose a different path to Toyota, by upgrading its looks to a more suave style than its previous functional design. Rounded edges everywhere, the Patrol looks pretty massive on the road. Its big on everything: headlamps, tail lamps, hood, grille, 20 inch wheels … you name it.
All Nissan’s come standard with a 5.7 liter V8 engine with 400 horsepower an a whopping 560 pounds of torque, which means the car is reasonably nimble for its size, especially on manual shift mode. The 7 speed automatic gearbox is smooth allows quick acceleration. This of course comes at a price as the fuel economy, at least on our drive, was around 5.6km/l.
Nissan’s biggest change is in the interior. Gone are hard plastics and cheap materials. Inside, you’re welcomed by a semi luxurious environment, from the soft supple leather, to the wood grain dash, 8 inch infiniti style infotainment screen with a 9.3 GB hard drive and soft touch materials. The Platinum edition comes with satellite navigation; around-view monitor; separate seven-inch DVD screens in the rear of the front seat headrests; a memory function for the driver’s seat, a centre console cool box that can open from the front and rear, and Bose audio with 13 speakers.
The car is wider and more spacious than ever especially in the first 2 rows. The driver and front passenger get a grand high view of the streets, while the rear passengers enjoy an almost flat floor easily seating 3 adults. The third row seating, need to be manually lifted, surprising, since we had the platinum edition, but there is an automatic close button for the rear cargo door. Leg room is immense, both front and back, and even in the third row so it could accommodate 2 adults. Even with all seats occupied you still get a hefty 550 liters of storage space.
Nissan market this car as a rugged, yet refined, and they’ve hit the nail on the head. It’s a classic UAE 4 wheel, that has reinvented itself beautifully.
